Rincon Farms:
Farms 800 acres in Gonzale in the Salinas Valley. About 200 are for organic crops. He grows a variety of vegetables from cauliflowers to lettuce and artichokes.
(Note: Wayne was recommended by Justin Grove who called Wayne an early adopter).
He spends between $500 to $1000 in direct labor for weeding in organic plus other expenses.
Non-organic costs are about $80 per acre.
He has been looking at technology for weeding. In particular he has been eyeing a system by a small company in the UK called Tillet and Hauge - http://www.thtechnology.co.uk/index.html called Robo Crop that has a rotating cutting blade and a camera that looks at spacing parterns. http://garford.com/inrow.html
He would buy a machine that can pay for itself within one year as this is a major problem for him.
How many will he buy? Depends on how much work / how many acres each machine can do.
He believes this company or a rep for them will be at the World Ag Expo and will go and see it.
